Rumour: PlayStation Phone to be unveiled on December 9th

We’ve had blurry images of the device and top execs hint at its existence, which means the rumour mill for the PlayStation Phone is now moving into Stage 2 of operations: the date for the official announcement.

French tech blog Nowereelse.fr has received an image of what looks like a press invitation due to be sent out soon, in which the four familiar symbols for the PlayStation are placed next to an image of a phone.

The invite reads (in French, natch) ‘the most awaited event of the past 10 years’, and puts the date for the announcement down as the 9th December.

MobileCrunch has also been doing some digging around this apparent invitation, and spoke to a 'tipster' who told them it was the genuine article and that the phone would be formally launched next February.

The tipster went on to describe the screen as on par with the iPhone's Retina display, and talked of the games being priced at mobile game rates, not PSP (which makes sense, given that it's an Android phone at heart).
