Hijacking the UK and US App Store tomorrow

iPhone open-world shooter Gangstar 2: Miami Vindication hits the New Zealand App Store

Gameloft’s GTA-like Gangstar 2: Miami Vindication is out now in New Zealand, which means it should be arriving on UK shores at midnight.

Gangstar 2: Miami Vindication takes the series in a similar direction to Rockstar's Vice City, in that it transplants the criminal action to the sunny climes of Miami for some sun, sea, and searing hot flamethrowers.

The similarities don’t stop there. Players can fly around in helicopters, burn rubber on motorcycles, and bash in some waves on jet-skis.

Alongside the striking Retina display-optimised graphics, one of the most eye-catching elements of Gangstar 2: Vice City is that the story appears to have received just as much attention as the resolution, with a scriptwriter from The Wire helping pen the plot, which sees the player searching for his kidnapped little brother.

Gameloft claims that the AI has been improved for this latest entry, with police calling in the FBI should you prove a bit too ‘gangsta’ for them to handle, and the developer promises realistic recreations of a whole host of famous Miami landmarks to tear around in.

Oh, and artists from Ninja Tune are signed up for the radio stations, which in my opinion instantly makes the game awesome.

Gangstar 2: Miami Vindication will be available from midnight for £3.99 / $6.99 / €5.49.
