£5.99 x 5 = unprecedented premium iDevice price

Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse series may cost £30 on iPad, Penal Zone available now

Two detectives, one a psychotic bunny rabbit, the other a put upon dog - it could only be Sam & Max. LucasArts’s legendary adventuring duo have been doing the rounds at Telltale Games recently, and now the first episode of a brand new five part epic is coming to iPad alongside Mac, PC, and PS3.

Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse - Episode 1: The Penal Zone, to give it its full title, looks sharp as a knife if the screenshots are to be believed, and not hugely different to its PC and console counterparts.

It does cost £5.99, though, so it's a premium download, and if all five episodes cost the same amount it could actually work out more expensive than the computer and console versions (now available to pre-order at $34.95).

This could be an interesting experiment in the alignment of App Store games as peers of boxed titles, and we're curious to see how it pans out. But, price concerns aside, we’re just looking forward to spending more time with the greatest good cop/bad cop act around.
