Aardman Studios teams up with Nintendo for Flipnote animations
Wallace and Gromit in: The Plight of the Italian Plumber? Not quite…
Stop-motion animation king Aardman Studios - they of Wallace and Gromit fame - has teamed up with the king of gaming goodness, Nintendo. Rather than a supergroup style bringing together of their leading mascots, though, they’ll be working on something rather more original.
The English animation company will be using Nintendo’s free DSi animation programme, Flipnote Studios, to create 12 original animations.
The first of these will be entitled "The Sandwich Twins," and will run on September 16 on the Hatena site. The other 11 will continue to be released in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
Aardman animator Tim Ruffle, who will be responsible for the Flipnote pieces, had this to say:
“I had a lot of fun making these. Flipnote is so simple to use that it’s easy to make short, fun animations - but there’s a surprising amount of features there too, meaning you can make your creations more complex as your confidence grows. Budding animators will find this a great way to get creative!”
