Animal Crossing-meets-Harvest Moon simulation Astro Ranch has taken on a colourful new look, screenshots released today show.

Astro Ranch puts you in the space suit of intergalactic explorer Sindy Starlight who unintentionally discovers an alien planet upon crash landing. By raising cash crops, Sindy can accumulate enough money to repair her rocket and return home.

The game's new look is awash with cool shades splashed onto the screen in the style of watercolour paint. It's a noticeable departure from the earthen tones of the previous look, which featured bright oranges, yellows, and reds.

Concept artist Laura Whyte describes the visual similarity to Animal Crossing as inspiration tempered with a bit of originality.

"It is rare to have the opportunity to create an entirely new alien environment from scratch and whilst Astro Ranch pays visual homage to some of our favourite cartoons, movies and games it has a style that is all its own."

Check out the difference in the two screenshots below. The one on the left shows the original style, whereas the right image flaunts the new look.
