G1 Android users going download crazy

An average of 40 app downloads each

Product: T-Mobile G1 | Manufacturer: T-Mobile
It seems the paid Android Market is really starting to bring in the users, who are, according to T-Mobile CTO Cole Brodman, making the most out the handset's connectivity.

With approximately 2,300 games and applications now on the Market, it seems developers have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the purchase system, as around a third are already paid apps. On average, each G1 has grabbed 40 downloads, with more than 80 per cent using their phones to surf the web every day.

But, says Brodman, digging out the ones we want is an irksome task. We took a look at the Market in comparison to the iPhone's App Store recently, and it seems even T-Mobile agrees that as the list gets longer, the on-device Market application needs refining.

"Users have a hard time searching through that long tail," Brodman said at the Dow Jones Wireless Innovations conference, and went on to call for more intuitive filtering options so users can get to the applications they want with minimum fuss, citing YouTube as a good example of how to cruise for relevant content.

T-Mobile has big plans to expand on its 3G networks, which is undoubtedly driven by feature rich smartphones like the G1, so early indications for the widespread adoption of Google's platform is looking very promising.
