Call me cynical - and believe me, many have - but I don't think it's taking the comparison too far to say that Appy Entertainment's forthcoming game Trucks & Skulls looks like another rather popular iPhone physics games.

Yeah. Swap the trucks for birds and the skulls for pigs... You get the idea.

Of course, considering the heritage of the likes of Crush the Castle and Crazy Penguin Catapult, Angry Birds can hardly claim it was the original of the genre.

And, let's face it, action physics games are such good fun, why wouldn't we want to try another one?

Lava, dynamite and rubber

It will particularly be the case, if as Appy maintains, 'This is the physics puzzler you've been waiting for! Smash nitro burning monster trucks into piles of giant skulls!"

Well, it does have a certain ring to it.

The actual gameplay is that as you launch your trucks from the Screamstrip Ramp, you tap the screen to make them pull stunts before as they crash into buildings and scaffolds to destroy lurking, leering skulls.

Over 100 levels are promised at launch, with more to follow as updates.

More significantly, the iPad version of the game will ship with a fully featured level creation kit, allowing you to make your own levels to share with friends.

Trucks & Skulls is due for release at the end of October for iPhone and iPad.
