Hot off the heels of announcing a set of major updates to on-rails shooter
Doom Resurrection, id Software's John Carmack revealed plans for a remake of
Orcs & Elves specifically for iPhone.
Speaking to an audience at the company's QuakeCon event in Texas, the accomplished programmer articulated the intention to start serious work on the game before year's end.
Carmack admitted that he had wanted to embark on the project earlier, noting that id Software had begun iPhone game development later than he had hoped.
An
Orcs & Elves port, he stated, would have required too much time on his part and there wasn't enough extra personnel within id to assemble a team to do the work following the launch of the App Store.
The iPhone version of
Orcs & Elves is to be based on the Nintendo DS iteration of the mobile original, Carmack explained. Updated graphics and new content will join an inherited touch control scheme.

no official screens or concept art? If the game's graphics are similar to the screen shot (there is another RPG with similar graphics), then I'm not so sure that this game will do well on the App Store.
Gamers seem to want a higher production value when it comes to genres like this (RPG).
the only iPhone RPG's I've had any fun with are: Puzzle Quest, Zenonia, and underworlds. All three had their issues, but they seem to be the best the App Store has to offer right now.
now... if Square Enix brought a high profile port saaaaay... FF4 DS to the App Store... or better yet, made an RPG from the ground up for the App Store then this genre would explode into a sloppy giant with a huge appetite, wielding a massive club with a spike driven through it!
Come on Square Enix! No more casual games man! Give us a real RPG!
