 PSP PREVIEW

Tricked out wheels skidding our way

Rockstar's PSP debut is coming courtesy of Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition

Product: Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition | Developer: Rockstar Leeds | Publisher: Rockstar | Genre: Racing
It was the success of the Fast and the Furious - a film which proved wheels not actors were the stars of the scene - that nitro-boosted the urban tricked-out angle of racers. And with an edgier-than-thou attitude running throughout Rockstar's games, it's hardly surprisingly it's gone to (down) town with the latest version of Midnight Club.

Rockstar's first PSP game, as well as the debut of Rockstar Leeds, DUB Edition really lays on the style, with a huge selection of motors available, as well as a cutting soundtrack spanning hip-hop, rock, and dancehall.

The bulk of the game is the usual Midnight Club combination of extreme speed racing around urban environments - in this case San Diego, Detroit, and Atlanta - while trying to evade the attentions of the cops. Inbetween, you get the opportunity to customise the look and the performance of your cars, trucks and bikes. Like the console version of the game, PSP Midnight Club 3 lets you free-roam around the streets, tracking down opponents for racing or just exploring short-cuts and secrets. As well as the standard modes - from career, arcade, and cruise modes - a quick race option is added to provide for drop-in-drop-out gaming.

And, of course, there are multiplayer options, with up to six racers able to go wheel-to-wheel through ten race types including tag and capture the flag. Downloadable content is also planned.
