New Super Mario Bros. 2 3DS tops Japanese multiplatform charts
Nintendo collects lots of coins
New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the Nintendo 3DS is selling rather well in its native Japan. In fact, it's retaken the top spot on the nation's multiplatform charts from a gaming giant.
The game it knocked from its perch is none other than Dragon Quest X, the latest in Square Enix's squillion-selling RPG series.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 sold 146,684 units over the past seven days, taking its total sales in Japan to 790,732.
We reviewed the game last week and found it to be a typically well-executed, if somewhat uninspired, addition to the Nintendo 3DS roster. In the Italian plumber's latest adventure, you take control of the mustachioed one and collect lots and lots of coins. Yes, like some kind of London banker.
Down in third place on this week's Japanese games chart, meanwhile, is the Nintendo DS title Pokemon Black & White 2, an all-new Pokemon game that's due to launch in the UK on October 12th.
