We don't know much about ninjas – the writer we sent to learn more about them never returned – but from what we've picked up, they tend to wear black, use brawn not brains, and fight kung fu masters or bungling French detectives after leaping out of nearby cupboards.

Neenya Ninja sets out her stall differently. Billed as 'the world's smartest ninja', she nevertheless wears an unflattering blue jumpsuit – hardly suited to martial arts in Japan, although arguably in keeping with the multi-coloured platform game landscape she inhabits.

What's more, rather than making mincemeat of fleshy adversaries, she reduces robots to nuts and bolts. And the normal Zen-like avoidance of worldly temptations doesn't apply to her – she's on a quest for diamonds.

If this all sounds like we're fleshing out a scanty press release accompanied by six screenshots, you're a perceptive reader. In fact, about all we know that we haven't told you about Neenya Ninja is that there's 15 levels promised, and you can collect hearts for an extra life.

Perhaps the game's developer is deliberately keeping things mysterious to enhance Neenya's ninja allure. Whatever: if we review the game we'll be the first to break the code of silence, so watch this space.
