N.O.V.A. - or Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance - is looking like a strong Halo-esque first-person shooter for the iPhone, which means there's a fair bit of excitement surrounding the app. A Halo clone on your phone is definitely something to call home about.

Lucky New Zealand gamers can now download the app, and the price is $9.99, which equates to $6.99 in US dollars.

The first mutterings on the TA forums suggest that it's quite good. The controls are apparently similar to Modern Combat's, and the multiplayer - whilst no one has yet played it - at least looks like it works.

According to one member, "Ok multiplayer, There was one server online which I was able to join with no problems but could not find any other players. It appears to be quite solid, definitely none of the problems of MC which I still can not get online with. Areas are quite large."

One thing is certain: no one is complaining about the graphics, aside from some occasional sluggishness if you aren't using an iPhone 3GS.

N.O.V.A. is due out on the App Store tomorrow for the rest of the world.
