A glint in the sky, a laser cuts the air, and suddenly Mega Man appears in all his 8-bit, heroic glory.

The mega-powerful manga-mite is a retro favourite of everyone who ever owned a NES, and it was a real surprise to find Capcom had snuck an iPhone adaptation of the Nintendo 8-bit classic Mega Man II onto the App Store.

The game is a pixel perfect conversion (which isn’t particularly taxing for the iPhone, admittedly) of the popular 1988 plaformer, in which the eponymous hero battles his way through 14 levels to defeat the embarrassingly named Dr Wily and his eight robotic masters.

Mega Man II sports Capcom’s signature arcade cabinet design, with a virtual joystick and buttons for bouncing around the colourful scenery blowing up everything that moves.

Hit the ‘Buy It!’ button to power jump over to the App Store and check out Mega Man II.

Retro-tastic, boy.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
