To celebrate the beginning of Wimbledon, Nintendo has released a special Mario Tennis Open infographic that details the history of the sporting franchise, which was first introduced in 1995.

Mario Tennis was first made available for the Virtual Boy, and has subsequently been released on a number of other consoles, including the Game Boy Colour, the Game Boy Advance, the Nintendo 64, and the GameCube.

The latest entry in the franchise, Mario Tennis Open, volleyed its way on the company's 3DS handheld earlier this year, before smashing its way to a Pocket Gamer Bronze Award.
