Set in in the fictional world of Benmard, Air War 3D drops you into the cockpit of a fighter jet as pilot George Alex as he destroys the invading air force from the land of Ispan.
As you single-handedly wipe out an entire invading force, you quickly realise that, while basic on the surface, this is actually a rather enjoyable shooter.
You've got to fire off missiles and bullets at oncoming jets, helicopters and bosses as you zoom over 3D landscapes. You'll also need to keep an eye out for bonuses, score multipliers, fuel for your ship, and ammunition to keep you in the competition.
Because of the general restrictions on what you can do with a Java title, the 3D isn't overly beautiful to look at. But it's impressive nonetheless, and a slightly cartoony style helps it remain appealing.
Air War 3D doesn't really bring anything new to the table or really excel beyond what’s come before in the shump genre. But it's still got some solid gameplay and a difficulty curve that'll test even the most skilled thumbs.
