When Atlus went up for sale this summer, many fans feared that the acquiring company would churn out watered-down mobile versions of its hardcore Shin Megami Tensei RPGs.

The good news here is that Sega - the company that bought up Atlus - already had a Shin Megami Tensei-esque RPG in the works for iOS called Demon Tribe, and it's set to receive an English localisation this winter.

So, take a deep breath - Demon Tribe isn't a free-to-play version of SMT, but it does borrow many of the same mechanics.

Dial D for Demon

For starters, the goal of Demon Tribe is to collect... well, a tribe of demons. Once collected, you'll be able to fuse these demons and use them to create new, stronger demons.

The combat looks similar to to trading card games like Rage of Bahamut, but with a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) twist - in addition to cooperative encounters, you can also team up with friends to take on other players in three-on-three battles.

We don't know when to expect the iOS release for sure, but Siliconera reports that it'll be available "this winter". Take a look at the older, Japanese trailer below for an idea of what you can expect from it.
