Uppercut Games has revealed to IGN that Epoch 2, the sequel to the company's Silver Award-winning third-person shooter Epoch, is "deep in development".

The first game was a brilliant shooter designed from the ground up for touchscreen devices.

At review in November 2011, we called it "a unique take on the third-person action genre with satisfyingly different touchscreen controls."

Which is why the announcement of a sequel has been greeted with gurgles of excitement here at Pocket Gamer Towers.

Before you, ask, yes, Epoch 2 picks up right from where its predecessor left off in terms of the robot apocalypse storyline.

Uppercut Games has made few gameplay tweaks here and there, though, to try and improve on the swipey-shooty mechanics of the first game.

This time around, for example, there'll be a melee system for punching robots in the face, an active reload system borrowed from Gears of War, and some ledge swinging.

Apparently, the Epoch 2 campaign will be three times as long as the original's, and there'll be eight new bad guys and five new weapons. Sequels are all about numbers, of course.

Hopefully, we'll get some more information about Epoch 2 in the coming weeks. For now, though, have a look at the gorgeous selection of Epoch 2 screenshots in the gallery up at the top of the page.
