PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD is heading to the PS Vita on July 31st
Monstrous timing
The original PixelJunk Monsters came out on PS3 five years ago. It was followed in 2009 by a PSP version, PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe.
And now it's the turn of the PS Vita to get some PixelJunk Monsters love.
Over on the EU PlayStation Blog, PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD has finally been given an official release date. July 31st, by the way.
Double Eleven is the developer behind PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD for Vita. Yep, the very same team responsible for the upcoming Vita version of Frozen Synapse.
If you're not familiar with the game, it's a tower defence classic. You chop down trees, build towers, collect coins, and try to repel the invading beasties.
PixelJunk Monsters represents a beefier take on the sometimes lightweight genre, with layers of tactics and strategies to consider in every game.
As well as boasting spruced-up HD graphics, this new Vita edition of the game sports more than 30 hours of gameplay; online and ad hoc co-op play; touchscreen controls; unlockable trophies, and extra levels.
We gave the PSP version of PixelJunk Monsters a Gold Award back in the day, calling it "the new gold standard for tower defence".
You've not got long to wait to find out whether this new version trumps its older sibling. PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate HD will be hitting PSN on July 31st. It'll set you back £9.99.
