Nippon Ichi confirms that it's working on more Disgaea games for PS Vita
For the Japanese market, that is
Sometimes, Japanese RPG developers take their creations a little too seriously, layering on the teenage angst and world-ending malaise so thickly that serious plot points get lost in all the sighing and flouncing.
Not so Nippon Ichi.
Its Disgaea series contains just as many jokes and instances of black humour as it does fights and weapons.
If you don't believe me, take a look at our review of Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention. We gave it a Silver Award and described it as having "enough content to hold your attention far beyond the school holidays".
And at a recent event in Yokohama to celebrate Nippon Ichi's 20th anniversary, the studio announced that three titles are on the way to Sony's PS Vita, two of which fit into the Disgaea canon.
First, there's the game that's believed to be a port of Disgaea 4. That one's called Disgaea 4: Return. In it, you follow the tale of a sardine-munching vampire who has been relegated to training all the Prinnys in Hades.
Information on the other two games is, well, scarce. One's tentatively entitled the 10 Years of Asagi Project and stars Asagi, a fan favourite bit character from the other Disgaea games.
The third game has the working title Criminal Girls: Invitation. Other than the fact it's scheduled for release in the latter part of the year for Vita, we don't really know anything about it.
Right now, there's no confirmation on a Western release date for any of the games, but hopefully Nippon Ichi has already got the localisers hard at work. We'll let you know as soon as we hear any news on this front.
