Out at midnight: Unleash a Weapon Smash Attack or 2 in iOS port of Neo Geo classic Samurai Shodown II
Cutting you down to size
Back in the days when the 1-on-1 fighting game was king, there was only one title that could distract me from Street Fighter II.
That game's name was Samurai Shodown II.
By adding swords and attack animals to each character's arsenal in this Neo Geo classic, SNK Playmore did more than enough to get any teenager's attention.
For those in need of a nostalgia boost, then, hear this: Samurai Shodown II has just gone live on the New Zealand App Store. That means it'll be available in the UK and US later tonight.
All original 15 cast members of Samurai Shodown II are present and correct in this iPhone and iPad adaptation. As before, each fighter boasts a distinctive combat style.
Through the notorious "Weapon Smash Attack" and some expansive move lists, SNK introduces even more diversity among the characters.
You can control the action in Samurai Shodown II using either the original four-button layout or an updated six-button and SP button configuration.
And, yes, Bluetooth local multiplayer will enable friends to face off in that traditional 1-on-1 manner. Just be careful when you lose - iPhones are more delicate than arcade machines.
Samurai Shodown II will go live on the UK and US App Stores at midnight tonight, priced £6.99 / $9.99.
