We are working on new games, but our first priority is existing players, says Supercell
How CEO views the future
Last week, I popped over to Helsinki in Finland to check out the Free Your Play 2013 festival.
Organised by developer Supercell to celebrate its success with Clash of Clans and Hay Day, I managed to grab a couple of minutes with company CEO Ilkka Paananen.
Head manOne of my questions was how it balances supporting its existing games with working on new ones.
"The first priority for us is, and always has been, the existing players, so the most of the investment goes to existing games and making them better," Paananen said.
"But, of course, we are developing new games all the time, prototyping, and yes, we are killing a lot of stuff too."
This is in reference to the four games Supercell worked on in 2012 but didn't think were good enough to be released.
The futurePaananen said he expected that ratio of two games canned to one game released would continue in future.
Of course, that's no promise, but clearly there's a likelihood Supercell will release something new before the end of 2013.
