Trendy Entertainment adds MOBA mode to upcoming tower defence sequel Dungeon Defenders 2

Trendy Entertainment has revealed that it is working on Dungeon Defenders 2 for iOS and Android.

In this sequel to the multi-platform tower defence RPG title Dungeon Defenders, Trendy will build on the first game's multiplayer foundation by adding a more refined competitive mode for MOBA-style gameplay on the go.

"Our take on the MOBA genre is more RPG-esque," a Trendy employee states on the official Dungeon Defenders 2 site, "with more hero customisation, persistent hero leveling, loot, and a town square where players can socialise, manage their heroes, shop, trade, and queue for matches."

That's not to say that the developer will be ignoring Dungeon Defenders fans in favour of courting League of Legends acolytes.

In fact, Dungeon Defenders 2 will feature an all new co-op campaign set in a 24-player overworld. This mode, Trendy believes, is the "true sequel" to the original game.

Second time's the charm

It's no secret that we took issue with the iOS version of Dungeon Defenders.

While we applauded the inventive spin on the tower defence genre, we felt the game's cluttered interface and poorly implemented controls left much to be desired.

However, with the Trendy team paring down this F2P sequel's prospective platforms to PC, iOS, and Android, we hope the studio can fix these issues and deliver a truly optimised mobile experience.

Dungeon Defenders 2 will be available in two separate chapters: one for co-op mode, one for competitive mode. Expect the competitive mode - which is in beta at the moment - to be launched first.
