Best of the rest - Android edition: Pixel Kingdom, Vex Blocks, Unicorn Apocalypse

Welcome to "Best of the rest - Android edition", Pocket Gamer's round-up of all the new 'droid games that we didn't find the time to cover this week.

Hundreds of new games hit Google Play every day, so we can never write about everything. Instead, we pick and choose the most interesting and noteworthy apps.

To make sure no one is left out, though, we like to chuck a few of the most exciting 'leftover' new Android games in this here article.

Here's something you don't see everyday: a Kickstarter project that's actually come to term.

Pitched on the crowd-funding platform late last year, Pixel Kingdom is an RPG defence game based around fending-off attacks from an endless supply of blocky baddies.

Luckily, you have a wide variety of units to purchase and upgrade, including healing clerics and deadly ninjas.

It's free-to-play, and garnering some great reviews, so check it out.

If you like your match-three puzzlers with fewer jewel and more lightning, you might want to check out Vex Blocks.

This electrically-charged colour-matcher marries slick neon visuals with classic Bejeweled-esque gameplay.

You get an impressive amount of bang for your buck, too. Dev Itzy entertainment has crammed four different game types into this cuboid package, including an 80-level Puzzle Mode.

We approve of the game's polished visuals and Thor-like obsession with lightning bolts. The dedicated Puzzle Mode is also a nice inclusion.

Finally, we have Unicorn Apocalypse, a supposedly kitch auto-runner which appears to have been crushed by its own hype machine.

The winner of Samsung's developer contest (in which users were invited to create a game based on the Unicorn Apocalypse concept shown in recent Samsung commercials), Liquid Gamework's rooftop runner is as daft as you would expect.

In it, you must guide the magical horned horse across crumbling buildings, all the while fending off attacks from heavily-armed military types.

Despite all the free publicity, Unicorn Apocalypse has received a ton of negative feeback on Google Play, and currently has a 2-star rating based on over 500 reviews. Ouch.
