Battle serpentine enchantresses in Rage of the Gladiator on Android

After a few months of battle in the iOS coliseum, first-person hack 'n' slash title Rage of the Gladiator has stepped into the Google Play arena.

Originally ported from Nintendo's WiiWare library, Rage of the Gladiator is a gesture-based fighter which has a lot in common with Chair's hugely successful Infinity Blade.

In Rage of the Gladiator, you go toe-to-toe with a roster of increasingly powerful foes. To attack, you simply swipe the screen over the part of your enemy's body you wish to maul.

Rather than conjuring creature designs out of thin air, the Rage of the Gladiator team looked to Greek mythology for inspiration.

As a result, you'll find yourself duelling with huge minotaurs and a she-demon whose serpentine hair suggests she's been taking grooming advice from Medusa herself.

In between swipes, you can upgrade your armour and practise a few handy incantations to assist you on the battlefield.

If you have the will of the warrior, you can download previous Pocket Gamer Game of the Week winner Rage of the Gladiator free from Google Play now [download]
