Yo-ho-ho, and giant army of space insects

Sela The Space Pirate set to dock on the App Store next Friday

Next Friday, you'll be able to char carapaces until your heart's content in parasite-puncturing iOS shooter Sela The Space Pirate.

Though it bears all the hallmarks of a bullet-hell shooter (vertically scrolling camera, waves of synchronised enemies, screens filled with purple lasers), Sela The Space Pirate appears to be a little more lighthearted than, say, DoDonPachi Resurrection.

Rather than searching for treasure on the Seven Seas, our intergalactic heroine Sela finds herself forced to fend off the insectoid contents of an exploded meteor.

Okay, so, she's the one who exploded the meteor in the first place, but there's no use crying over escaped space bugs.

With her robo-buddy Botte, Sela must battle her way through 30 bullet-ridden levels, blasting bosses, dodging plasma volleys, and upgrading her ship as she goes.

As you can see in the trailer above, the creature designs are pleasingly grotesque. The handsome 3D environments add some welcome depth to the carnage, too.

We weren't so hot on The Game Atelier's Flying Hamster, but we're keen to see whether Sela The Space Pirate delivers the booty. Find out yourself next Friday. Ooooo, it's February 13th. Scaaaary.
