32 all-new Skylanders figurines entering the fray this autumn in Skylanders: Swap Force

If you've managed to work your way through Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and Skylanders: Giants, you'll be pleased to read that publisher Activision has already begun to show off the franchise's next instalment.

In Skylanders: Swap Force for 3DS, 32 all-new Skylanders will enter the fray. 16 of them will be mix and match figurines that you can pull in half and combine with pieces of other toys to create a whopping 256 unique heroes.

You can pull the head and torso off the rather slow water-based character Wash Buckler, for example, and attach it to the bottom half of the fast-moving fire-based Magna Charge.

As always with the Skylanders franchise, the Skylanders: Swap Force game will be available as part of a special starter pack, which will also contain a wireless portal, two Swap Force figurines, and a Series 3 Stealth Elf.

It's unclear whether or not an iPhone or iPad version of Skylanders: Swap Force will surface later this autumn.

It's pretty safe to assume, though, that at least a couple of the new figurines will be compatible with Skylanders: Cloud Patrol and the rest of the series's mobile offerings.
