Best of the rest - Android edition: Cubes vs. Spheres, Dungeon Quest, and more
The Android games we almost missed
Afternoon, all.
Welcome to "Best of the rest - Android edition", Pocket Gamer's round-up of all the new 'droid games that we didn't find the time to cover this week.
Hundreds of new games hit Google Play every day, so we can never write about everything. Instead, we pick and choose the most interesting and noteworthy apps.
To make sure no one is left out, though, we like to chuck five of the most exciting 'leftover' new Android games in this here article.
Let us know if you like the look of any of these.
Cubes vs. SpheresBy ShockPanda Games - buy on Android
Join the battle between spheres and cubes in this super-stylish geometric physics game.
You must destroy waves of oncoming cubes by flicking a variety of differently powered orbs towards your enemy's right-angled ranks.
We liked the iOS version of Cubes vs. Spheres a whole bunch, so we're delighted to see it available on Google Play. Definitely worth a look.
Dungeon QuestBy Shiny Box - download on Android
This top-down RPG is all about chance.
Most of the game is generated on the fly (you fools), meaning no matter how many times you attempt the game's 100 levels, you always encounter a new challenge.
There's also a sinister quartet of bosses for your plucky wizard to fight, plus five difficulty levels to really test your magical mettle.
Call of Mini: BrawlersBy Triniti Interactive - download on Android
If only someone would put zombies in a video game. I bet that would be neat. And new, too. Neat... and new.
Oh, sorry, Call of Mini: Brawlers, I didn't see you there! Didn't notice your footsteps over the moaning of that advancing zombie horde.
What's that you've got there...? A minigun? And you want me to charge left and right across a 2.5D environment blowing deadites to bits with it?
I'll see what I can do.
Zombie RoadBy Noodlecake Studios - download on Android
Oh, for crying out loud.
Actually, in fairness, this isn't a game about shooting zombies. It's a game about running over zombies. Which, as anyone who's tried to jump-start an AK-47 will tell you, makes all the difference.
Let's see: you have to mash though the undead in a bunch of different upgradable vehicles, performing jumps and blasting zombies with a range of weapons...
Never mind.
QuentoBy Q42- download on Android
Any game developer who claims to make maths fun should be treated with fear and suspicion.
However, Q42's clever little puzzler is actually rather enjoyable, forcing you to make a specific number by building the appropriate sum.
You do this via simple swipe controls, so all you have to do is spot the sum and drag your finger through the tiles.
Oh, and know maths.
Disclaimer: Technically, Quento and Dungeon Quest turned up on Google Play before this week, but we felt they warranted a mention nonetheless.
