Football Manager Handheld 2013 kicking off on iOS tonight

It's all about the money these days

Football Manager Handheld 2013 kicking off on iOS tonight

The latest addition to the increasingly awesome Football Manager Handheld series hits the iOS App Store at midnight tonight.

As is the way of these things, Football Manager Handheld 2013 is out on the New Zealand App Store already, which means that football will be coming home to Blighty at midnight tonight.

The Football Manager series is always about the incremental updates, but this latest version does have a couple of interesting new features.

Let's start with the biggest - and potentially most divisive - feature of the 2013 season. In app purchases.

Now like some digital Roman Abramovich you can sweep in and buy your team of no-hopers a chance at the big time. You can't buy players outright with real funds, but you can expand your stadium, build a youth academy, or attract a sugar daddy to plough new investment into your club.

We're not entirely sure how we feel about that, but you have to admit, it's perfectly in keeping with the spirit of modern football.

You can also purchase more challenges in the returning Challenge Mode, which presents you with unique scenarios in a more mobile-friendly take on Sports Interactive's ridiculously time consuming game.

Amongst all the updated rosters and stats, Irish fans will be please to hear that the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland leagues are now playable.

As me mentioned at the outset, Football Manager Handheld 2013 will be available for iPhone and iPad from midnight tonight, and it'll set you back £6.99 / $9.99.
