Hunt ghosts and scare yourself silly in The Woods, coming to the App Store on Friday
If a tree falls…
iOS gamers who enjoy scaring themselves sleepless will want to check out The Woods when it lands in the App Store tomorrow.
Mixing parts of Slender-Man with Alan Wake, this Lovecraftian horror title relies heavily on minimalism and a foreboding atmosphere to deliver a good scare.
In The Woods, you take on the role of a paranormal investigator who has been tasked with unraveling the mystery of the, err... woods.
Strange spirits will seek to stop your meddling as the investigation progresses, however, and you must turn to your trusty torch to send them packing.
We're watching youOne of the more interesting aspects of The Woods is its built-in "reaction camera" which takes advantage of your iPhone or iPad's front-facing camera to capture your reactions to the jump scares that punctuate the ominous atmosphere of the game.
Equally interesting is the decision of the developers to implement a processor-friendly, per-pixel torch lighting mechanic which ensures that The Woods will run smoothly on older iOS devices as well as newer ones.
The Woods will arrive in the App Store on Friday, December 7 and will cost 99c / 69p.
