In what can only be described as an 'unorthodox' marriage of minds (and development units), the American rock band Linkin Park and the Formula One racing team Lotus F1 have partnered up to release a free iPad game.

Available right now on the App Store, Linkin Park GP invites you to drive a Lotus F1 car through an interactive 360-degree world.

Why? Well, by hitting the pedal to the (nu) metal, you create an original remix of Linkin Park's latest track 'Burn It Down'. Of course.

Out of tune

However, not all iPad owners can participate in these slightly weird music / racing shenanigans, for the processing and graphical power required to run Linkin Park GP means the first-gen iPad is ruled out. The game's developer, Clicmobile, has indicated, though, that support for the original iPad could be included at a later date.

This marks the third time that Linkin Park has ventured into the mobile gaming world, after the decidedly average Linkin Park 8-Bit Rebellion! and the special edition of Tap Tap Revenge entitled Linkin Park Revenge.

Linkin Park GP is available now on the App Store for the iPad, and it's free.
