Half-Life 2 dev Valve releases new Steam beta - allows you to download games via your phone

Half-Life 2 developer Valve has released a new beta for its Steam digital distribution platform that allows you to initiate downloads and manage your game library via a web browser or - more importantly - your mobile device.

Once installed, the client lets you download games while you're out and about in the local supermarket, feverishly typing away in work, or just enjoying a visit to the loo. The titles you buy will be available to play when you get home (or finish your 'business').

Naturally, you have to make sure that Steam is open on your Mac or PC, which means your computer of choice has to be left switched on constantly.

Still, if you're looking for convenience (and a big electric bill), it's a pretty nifty feature. To manage your games on the move, simply visit Steam on your mobile.
