Hardcore social outfit Kabam starts App Store assault with Kingdoms of Camelot

Boasting more than 15 million players worldwide, self-branded 'hardcore social games' developer Kabam has launched its first game on the App Store, Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North.

Kabam claims the game is an entirely original release building on the franchise's Facebook incarnation, with specific attention paid to the game's use of multi-touch interfaces.

Social conquest

Indeed, according to VP of mobile Matt Ricchetti, Kabam took time to ensure its mix of social-based play and MMO elements translated well to the iOS environment, wary its fanbase would not tolerate any dip in quality.

"We listened when our players asked us to bring our style of gameplay to iOS so they can get the rush that comes with real time, synchronous MMO-style alliance battles right on their iOS devices," said Ricchetti.

"We took care to create an experience that captures the essence of our strategy games while being tuned for fun and playability on a multi-touch interface - essentially, Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North takes the best parts of the PC MMO experience and puts it right in your pocket."

The game is already being described as the first of many releases by the company, with the game's reliance on alliances – players teaming up to take part in real-time battles with hundreds of others – expected to translate well on iOS.

Kabam joins companies such as Glu Mobile, Storm8, Z2Live, Aeria Mobile and the newly formed Industrial Toys in targeting the young male social audience.
