Killzone: Liberation

Put your black ops skills to good use: on a human colony, a long way from Earth, some hostages are hoping you'll be kind enough to save them

Killzone: Liberation

There's nothing quite as rewarding as applying yourself. Which is precisely what Sony has done with Killzone: Liberation, a just-announced spin-off of the popular PlayStation 2 franchise. Set in a not-too-distant future, a separatist military faction, the Helghast, is waging war on the human forces for good, the ISA.

Developed exclusively for the PSP and not due until the end of the year, Liberation promises an explosive, action-packed ride specifically tailored to exploit the capabilities of Sony's handheld. As such, and possibly due to the realisation that first-person shooters traditionally make disappointing portable gaming experiences, the game features a thirdperson perspective. However, in every other respect the game sticks to the Killzone universe like plastique; the weapons, characters and unique visual style first seen in the original game can all be expected.

Plot-wise, there's also a distinct progression with the inevitable return of the Helghast and the group's obsession with evil deeds. This time it's captured and is holding a number of ISA soldiers hostage. Care to guess who has to gear up and go save them in a secret covert operation?
