Secrets of the Mysterious Island revealed on iPhone

It seems like only two minutes since Return to Mysterious Island arrived on the iPhone, and already a sequel has been uncovered by Chillingo and Tetraedge.

Secrets of the Mysterious Island picks up immediately where the first game left off. Mina switched off the shield protecting the island, and her rescue is on its way.

A volcanic eruption bring the helicopter down, however, and Mina - along with her simian BFF Jep - embarks on another Jules Verne-ian adventure as she attempts to discover why the island was shielded in the first place - and why Captain Nemo never escaped.

The combination of imagery, 3D graphics, ambient sound effects and musical score push Secrets of the Mysterious Island over 700MB, so downloading it is a task as epic as Mina's, but the developer has bundled in some fascinating new features to make it worth your while.

In the sequel, you switch between the Mina and Jep characters, adding a new dimension of exploration seen through the eyes of an agile monkey. And if you're properly equipped with an iPhone 3GS, you can look around the island in 360 degrees using the accelerometer and compass, giving you a virtual letterbox to peep through into an encompassing new world.

The first game has sold over 100,000 copies so far, so it'll be interesting to see how many players will be keen to continue the journey. Hit the 'Buy It!' button to make your way back to The Mysterious Island.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
