Forever Lost: Episode 2

Here's a quick and simple way to find out whether you're going to like Forever Lost: Episode 2: did you like Forever Lost: Episode 1?

If you answered "yes", you can skip the rest of this review and head straight to the App Store to continue your creepy adventure.

If you answered "no", you can also stop reading now, because Forever Lost: Episode 2 doesn't do anything to break from the foundations laid down by its predecessor.

But if you sit in the difficult-to-define middle ground between the two camps, it might be worth you sticking around.

Forever is a long time

Forever Lost: Episode 2 picks up exactly where the first game left off. There's a brief recap of events if you haven't played the first game, and I don't want to spoil anything here, but it's fair to say that if you thought things were going to get simpler you're sorely mistaken.

The game is still a first-person point-and-click adventure, and you're still solving esoteric logic puzzles in order to try and find out what's happened to you and why you're apparently trapped in a world made up of esoteric logic puzzles.

While the first game was confined to a mental asylum, this second chapter spreads its wings a little. It's still not a massive environment, and it's sometimes as grey and awkward as the rooms in its predecessor, but there's more colour and variety here than before.

Tapping moves you around the world, and while there are no highlights over objects of interest you can find a selection of hints in the main menu.

You've still got a camera to capture the clues and messages you'll find around the world, and you've still got a suitcase with which to carry the objects you find.

Episodic

There's still an aura of unease and oddity permeating every inch of the world, too, and the fourth-wall breaking humour is still in place. In almost every sense of the term, Forever Lost: Episode 2 is more of the same.

But - and this is a big "but" - there's an extra layer of polish this time around. Everything feels that little bit sharper, that little bit cleaner, and that little bit cleverer. The controls are still a little cumbersome, but it feels less of an issue, as though the issue has been designed around.

Forever Lost: Episode 2 knocks down some of the hurdles that might have kept you from enjoying the first game. It's not perfect, and it's still head-scratchingly obscure at times, but if you're looking for a bizarre, enthralling adventure game you could do a lot worse.

Forever Lost: Episode 2

The extra layer of polish on Forever Lost: Episode 2 makes this clever and engaging game an even more enticing proposition
