Come August we should all be in the midst of Olympic game fever - so what better game to pop into your DS or PSP than International Athletics?

It was first brought to our attention back in May when early screenshots of it emerged from its publisher, Ghostlight. It was also revealed that International Athletics is set to be one of the most realistic athletics simulations out there - certainly a lot more realistic than giant blue hedgehogs and ageing plumbers competing head-to-head in the 100m at least. Back then there was no firm release date, but today Ghostlight has confirmed the game will be released in August.

Ten events in total will feature and all will be playable either alone or multiplayer. Up to four players will be able to compete head-to-head and their scores and achievements can be logged on an online leaderboard, which will determine the world's greatest virtual athlete.

As we mentioned, International Athletics will be a super realistic athletics simulation. So not only will the game's events look and play like the real thing, but players will also be able to fully customise their own sporting heroes by selecting their facial features, skin type and body stature.

If you like the sound of playing a virtual Olympic games on your handheld, this could well be the game you've been waiting for. Click 'Track It!' to get all the commentary on International Athletics as it comes in.
