High School Musical: Work This Out! comes to DS

Half game, half virtual MP3 player

High School Musical: Work This Out! comes to DS

Disney Interactive has announced a new High School Musical game for DS is scheduled for release in April. The game, HSM: Work This Out! is a music-based adventure game which features all ten of the songs from the Disney film, High School Musical 2.

Part of its appeal – as well as being able to play as film favourites Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad and Taylor – is that a music player option will enable the songs to be listened to, even with the DS closed. You could think of it as an album with a game attached. This is, of course, if you don't mind listening to tunes through your slightly sound-inferior DS.

The game's storyline is said to expand on that of the film, letting players explore the Lava Springs Resort, compete in time-based challenges and play assorted rhythm games.

As a final reassurance to fans, Disney also tell us this year's High School Musical 3 will usher another generation of video games. We didn't even know number three was coming, but we're sure it'll provide plenty more wholesome teens singing and dancing before being digitised for a whole assortment of cash-in quality games to follow. (Sorry, we're doing the best we can with regards to fighting our inner cynic.)

The newly released screenshots of the game above show it in action. If you like what you see, and are a fan of annoyingly catchy songs performed by bratty American stage school attendees, prepare to be spoilt this April. (Damn, it's beaten us again.)
