Gems and blocks? Schmems and, er, schmocks! It's all about hexagons when it comes to mobile puzzling, as far as we're concerned.

HeroCraft agrees, and is releasing a new game for smartphones and PDAs to prove it. It's called Hexxagon Labs, and is due out next month.

The basic aim is to beat your opponent by occupying as many cells on the game field as possible, by repainting their chip, and not losing your own.

There are three modes to play, and 17 arenas to test your wits in. Oh, and you can have up to three human players competing on one handset, which should be entertaining.

But possibly not as entertaining as the "amusing facts from the scientific world" that are served up between levels. Okay, I'm not so sure about this part.

Hexxagon Labs will be out for Windows Mobile, Symbian Series 60 and UIQ, and Palm OS smartphones. Click 'Track It' for an alert when we review it.
