Hero of Sparta II has launched on the New Zealand App Store today, meaning it should appear in Europe and America at midnight.

As Argos, your job is to slash, hack, and brutally slice apart Hades’s dark forces in a third-person 3D environment, rather than order and sell items through a primarily catalogue-based UK retail chain.

There have been a number of new additions to this latest entry to make it stand out from the Pocket Gamer Silver Award-winning predecessor. In gameplay terms this means more combo opportunities and larger enemies, as well as new weapons and a more interactive environment.

There’s an ‘optimised’ virtual pad for directing hits, as well as 360 degree control over jumping, with the added option of ‘air comboing’ mid-flow.

The title is launching with extra graphics options optimised for the 3GS, but there’s no word as yet on whether retina support will come with a later update. We’ve contacted Gameloft to find out.

The title is priced at 13.99 NZD, which should convert to £5.99 / $9.99 / €7.99.
