Appular and Brainium highlight the promotional possibilities of HTML5 with web version of Hand of Greed
Rich app discovery in your browser
Thanks to Steve Jobs' anti-Flash stance, lots of iDevice developers are piling into HTML5 to ensure their future rich media apps and websites work.
Following on from AdMob's demo of how its ads might work Harbor Master HD, US publisher Appular and developer Brainium Studio have launched an HTML5 marketing mini-site for their Hand of Greed iPhone game.
Sharp edgeCoded from scratch in HTML5, it offers players three levels of the 50 featured in the full game, encouraging upselling to the 99c-priced title as you play.
In this way, it also acts as a new promotion and discovery opportunity; something the companies expect to further experiment with in future.
"We've already begun working with AdMob to incorporate this web app within their ads, and are eager to do the same with Medialets and Apple's upcoming iAd network as well," said Brian Akaka, Appular's founder.
"Creating rich media ads like this will allow unparalleled opportunities for consumers to try out games without having to install a new app. Looking forward, we're excited to work with developers on using this technology to revolutionise app discovery."
To experience it in action, open Safari on an iDevice and point it in the direction of http://appular.com/webapp.
