QSound Labs buys into Guitar Hero III Mobile developer

Well, its mobile gaming arm, anyway

QSound Labs buys into Guitar Hero III Mobile developer

Mobile audio firm QSound Labs has reported its latest financial results, and given more details on its plans to capitalise on the mobile gaming market.

The company generated revenues of $608,000 for the second quarter of this year, while posting a net loss of $292,000.

However, the interesting part is its plans for mobile gaming. QSound has spent $3.1 million buying the Ripp3D graphics engine of MachineWorks Northwest, the developer behind Hands-On Mobile's Guitar Hero III Mobile.

QSound says it'll use the engine to make several iPhone games, to be released later this year, using its own mQ3D audio engine too.

Meanwhile, the company says it has also acquired an option to purchase MachineWorks Northwest's mobile gaming business. The option lasts until the end of January next year.

"The recent launch of the App Store by Apple in conjunction with the iPhone/iPod Touch has provided evidence to the industry that mobile gaming is now a business," says QSound president and CEO David Gallagher.

(It was presumably just a hobby until then for the likes of Gameloft, EA Mobile and Glu).

"This coupled with the company's plans to showcase mQ3D with its newly acquired 3D graphics engine, Ripp3D, on upcoming titles for the iPhone, should set the standard for 3D gaming on mobile devices."
