Canabalt with gravity - that sounds good.

Well, that's the concept behind Gravity Runner, the new game from UK developer We Are Colin.

Founded by university lecturer John Sear, and some of his students from the games course at the University of Derby, it's actually the fifth game the company's released.

As to the opening gambit of whether it can be properly described as Canabalt with gravity - that's open to debate.

Dancing on the ceiling

Certainly in terms of gameplay, Gravity Runner is a platformer, starring an automatically running character who you have to protect from obstacles by tapping on the screen to get him to jump over them.

The gravity bit comes into play as while he's jumping, you can tap again to reverse gravity: the platforming puzzlers are set up to require this.

The debate occurs over whether the addition of the new mechanic adds or detracts from the elegance of the Canabalt concept. This isn't a review so I'll duck a conclusion and let you discuss it in the comments section.
