Super Mole Escape. Ridiculous Fishing. Knightmare Tower.

These are just three games that Gamistry's Gold Diggers is similar to, but not quite as good as.

Even so, it's an enjoyable take on the vertical endless-runner, well worth the Bronze Award we gave it when it came out earlier this month.

Gold Diggers was downloaded 1.5m times in its first week (it's freemium), giving Gamistry plenty of data to mine in terms of what's working and what isn't.

Speaking to Pocket Gamer at Gamescom, developer Alex Kentie revealed that the studio plans to make some fairly significant changes in the near future.

Au my gosh

These arise mostly from the fact that the existing range of purchasable drills, chariots, and so on have a largely aesthetic rather than practical significance.

The details of what will be in the next update aren't concrete yet, but Kentie spoke of a modified machine gun that lets you fire in multiple directions for a limited time and a missile launcher that you can top up with extra ammo during gameplay.

Alternatively, you can hold out for random ammo drops, in a mechanic with which players of Gamistry's previous game Scrap Tank will be familiar.

The update may also contain extra diggers, including one that can survive in lava for a short time but starts with two lives instead of three to compensate.

Before it releases this update, Gamistry will spend some time tweaking the prices of IAPs and so on, as well as porting the game to Android. It hopes to have the full content update out within a couple of months.
