As we reported earlier in the week, Vivendi is merging with Activision, and the much-anticipated Ghostbusters seems to have fallen between the cracks, failing as it did to appear on the list of games set to make it across the footbridge before the lava incinerates the rope: Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age, Spyro, Prototype, and a mystery fifth.

A source speaking with Videogaming247 insisted that Ghostbusters is still in development, just without a publisher to present it to the world when it's finished. Given the immense haze that surrounds the DS version, however, we were concerned for the game's survival on that platform.

Licence-owner Sony Pictures, speaking with Variety video game blog The Cut Scene, has revealed that it is in the midst of evaluating "various options surrounding the release of the Ghostbusters video game."

It goes on. "This has presented [Sony Pictures Consumer Products] with an opportunity to reevaluate the game release marketing strategy to potentially coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original film in '09."

So, it's going to be delayed. No big surprise there, and while the whole anniversary angle sounds like PR dissembling, it's good PR dissembling.

Of course, this doesn't get us any closer to knowing whether the DS version has been canned, but it's news nonetheless. We'll bring you more as it comes in.
