Garters & Ghouls update adds iPhone 3GS compass function
New gameplay feature points you in the right direction
Garters & Ghouls has been Namco's most talked about iPhone game for quite some time, and the new 1.1 update puts the iPhone 3GS digital compass to use in a game for the first time.
The game, which follows the adventures of an undead debutante in 19th Century Washington D.C., now allows 3GS owners to put the compass to work by turning the handset into a kind of virtual radar, something we've known was likely to happen since the game was first alluded to.
By moving the handset around the place and spinning yourself around (right round, like a record, baby) you can locate a bunch of different power-ups, super weapons, and special powers dotted about the scenery.
"Garters & Ghouls will undoubtedly be the first of many games that tap into this particular feature," says Namco Networks's Jonathan Kromrey, perhaps a little unsure as to whether or not this is actually the first game to use the compass (I think it is, but haven't checked).
"It’s a fantastic yet logical step for mobile gaming to begin blurring the boundaries of where a game world ends and the real world begins."
Of course, the game still works as normal with the iPhone 3G and iPod touch, so grab the upgrade and get spinning.
