Which third-party licenses does the PSP need?

Discuss Sony's slick handheld here

Which third-party licenses does the PSP need?

Postby Fraser » Wed May 28, 2008 2:58 pm

As in the ones that we all know and love already but which have not made an appearance on Sony's increasingly first-party heavy handheld yet.

Here's a few just for starters:

Resident Evil
Oddworld
Devil May Cry
Grand Tourismo
Soul Caliber

The list could go on and on - at least it could with your help...

Baldur's gate (I'd buy it just for that).

A Space combat/trading sim, maybe something like Privateer or Freelancer.

Can't think of others right now, the lack of a touchscreen limits it a bit.

Well it would defintaly need some new IPs ... A serious beat'em up ala DMC or GoW , but a new one , and not just a console spinoff .

In the same time I agree . Capcom should strat supporting it with RE , DMC , Megamen and of course bring us more MHP games ;)

Namco Bandai should bring a sequel to Tekken DR ( not 6 , another ,exclusive one ) and Soulcalibur ( a port of the DC version could help the establishment of the PSP as a cult machine ) .

Konami should bring another MGS game . PO sold well , and so did PO+ , so I dont see why they couldent make another one .

Now SE is allready bringing BBS and Dissidia . The only IP I would like to see is DQ ... a port of 8 or a brand new game :)

From a western developer I would want to see a real FPS ... something like CoD : RtV but better ... maybe a Quake game , or the long announced but never arrived Painkiller .

Other than those there sint much I would think that could help :?

Not sure I want an FPS on the PSP, they just don't seem to work. Just to contradict myself however, if we could get a bumper UMD of old school FPS games like Doom, Quake 1, Hexen, and Duke Nukem (where there is much less fiddly up and down aiming) I'd probably buy it.

In fact, some value bumper discs in general would be great. How about one with the first two Oddworld games, or the first three Teken/Wipeout games? Mind you, I suppose we have the PSP Store for that sort of thing.

A good action RPG that isn't from the Final Fantasy universe would be great, it's a shame Oblivion was canned.

Ditto on Oblivion, I'm gutted that didn't happen. It's a game that requires such a time investment that it really suits being chipped away at on bus journeys over the course of a year. Actually that sounds strange but it would suit me.

Wouldn't say no to DMC or Resident Evil either and I'd love to see the Team ICO guys come up with something for the handheld (though it isn't really a third-party developer).

Another GTA would be great but it would have to be a big budget release with something new to offer rather than a slap dash port (not that either of the PSP GTA games have been bad). Could the PSP make for a good test bed for the first GTA MMO? I think so.

FPSs , at least big ones allways drive sale s, no matter on what systems they are . MoHH proved that a FPS can work well on the PSP , now all it needs is a highly advertised FPS ( ala H3/Ressistance ) and I bet that it would push a good ammount of systems out of the factory ;)

Well yes , but as you can see RPGs arent that big sales drivers outside Japan ... and thats a serious issue that Sony should adress ...

I know, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't bring them over anyway :)

I'd like to see more Capcom arcade titles - Capcom vs Marvel Superheroes would be ace (and it can be done easily enough judging by SFA and the CPS2 Emu).

I'd also like to see oddities like Persona 3 on the PSP, I think it'd look fantastic on a small screen.

Devil May Cry is a good idea, and Soul Calibur would be awesome.

They could just start by translating some of the awesome Japanese games like Gundam SEED: Rengoku vs ZAFT, which is about as perfect a mecha brawler as I've ever played... Maybe the Haruhi game, the Bleach fighters and Taiko No Tatsujin, which is a fantastic drumming game. You'd need some new songs on that though...
