Japanese Playstation Store users

I don't usually look at the Japanese Playstation Store much but there is a demo I'd like to point users to. If you create a Japanese Playstation Store account and activate your PSP to point to the new store, you can get hold of two interesting demos. One is "Prinny: Is it OK for me to be the Main Character?" while there is also a demo of the newly released (in the US) follow up to Riviera called Yggdra Union. I don't expect much of a language problem on Prinny but Yggdra Union may be a little text heavy.

Oh, and unless Sony haven't told me something, you should be able to switch between your UK and Japanese PSN accounts easily. I would do it like this:

1. Deactivate your PSP from the UK store (You will lose access to your UK downloaded items until you reactivate)
2. Clear your store.playstation.com cookies from your browser:

In Firefox, this can be done by going to Tools > Options and selecting the Privacy icon from the top menu. Click "Show Cookies" and search for "store.playstation.com". You should see 2 cookies. Click on the first one, hold down the Ctrl or shift key on your keyboard and click on the second cookie. Then click on "Remove cookies" and close/OK all the dialog boxes until you're back at the browser. Head to the Playstation Store and it will ask you to select your region. Voila!

For Internet Explorer, click on Tools > Options. On the general tab, under browsing history, click on "Settings", then "View Files". Look for the file "cookie:???@store.playstation.com" and delete it (where ??? is your username I think). Then, just head to the Playstation Store.

3. Go to store.playstation.com. On the country selection, choose Japan.
4. Create a Japanese PSN account (there should be a couple of guides floating round)
5. Log in to your new PSN account.
6. In the Japanese Store, just download one of the demos to activate your PSP to the Japanese account (as long as you're at the latest firmware and version of the Playstation Network Downloader, you'll be fine).
7. To change back to the UK store, re-do step 2 and then select UK. Then just re-activate your PSP.

It has long since annoyed me that the Japanese PSP store's comprehensive body of content has not been placed on the European site. Granted there are lots of Japanese language PS1 ports that would have no audience over here, but there also loads of great titles (such as MGS1 for starters) that have been available on the Japanese PSP Store for ages and that haven't had a look in here.

So what I'm saying in a round about way is, thanks for that detailed and clear 'How To' on switching to using the Japanese PSP Store, I'm sure I'm not the only person here that will find it useful :)

No problem!

Oh, the PSP Store also houses a demo of Garnet Chronicle if you're interested. Prinny is very friendly to Japanese-less players. Just experiment a bit and you'll be fine.

Yggdra Union, as I thought, is very text heavy. I seriously recommend you read at least a review before you get into it. You're practically in the deep end (there are tutorials, but again in Japanese).

Garnet Chronicle is Japanese but there is some English as well so it's not hard to get into. Just make sure you don't get surprised or you'll find your demo cut drastically short!

Those who made it to the Japanese Playstation Store and survived will now find a new demo added to the list. The demo is called Namaikida Or 2, a sequel to the game translated in English as "For a hero, you're pretty Impudent" or something like that.

The demo will take up 17MB. The previous game had a downloadable demo which you can find on the PSP Demo Center under the name Namaikida.

This thread was meant for the PC-Playstation Store but as the store has now moved to the PSP, there is a change in the instructions. To access another store's content, you must go to "Account Management" under the Playstation Network icon on the PSP XMB and press triangle. There, you can delete the stored account information from the PSP which will let you sign in with a different ID. To log into a different store, you need to make an account that is specifically made for that region (so if you want to access the US store, you need to create or log in as a used whose address is in the US).

Two new demos have appeared on the Japanese PSP store. There is Kenka Banchou 3: Zenkoku Seiha which I didn't download (thinking it was a full game) and then there is Chuumon Shiyouze! Oretachi no Sekai which looks like an RPG. I didn't get far but I managed to stream right through the Japanese text and see some of the battling. You just have to play around. To get to a mission get something from the quest person (centre part of town), go through the double doors in the big building on the left of the map after going to each of the 4 stores and the information desk.

Run around with the analog nub. In battle, use the analog nub to turn in battle. A turn/move counts as 1 AP, and attack counts as 3 AP. Press the x button to cancel any erroneous moves.

Fiddly but nice looking.
