HELP! PSP Wireless Connection Issues

Postby gordy1976 » Wed Jul 23, 2008 7:51 pm

I have recently purchased a second hand PSP but am finding it difficult to connect to a wireless network. I have a laptop, pc and Xbox 360 all connected to the network fine but everytime I try to conntect my PSP to the network it says that "A connection error has occured. A connection to the access point could not be established. Check the security settings for the network and try again." Do i have too many things connecting to one network, would that make a difference or do I need to do something via my PC to allow my PSP to connect? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you might have put the encryption key wrong. As you've hooked up other devices, I'll assume that you know your terminology. Make sure you've entered your SSID, WEP/WPA key (make sure you choose the right option) and that you're setting up an Infrastructure connection (Ad hoc is for short range wireless between PSP's and possibly network adapters).

I don't think a router would stop accepting new devices. A good test would be if you asked a friend with a wireless laptop not configured on your router to come to your house and try to establish a wireless connection. If he manages it, the settings on the PSP are at fault.

Thanks Hidden,

I will try to connect my sisters laptop up over the weekend and see what happens. The SSID key is definitely right though because I have copied it straight from the card that I have it on from Sky Broadband and re-tried several times to make sure that I had put it in correctly.

Is there any software or upgrades that my PSP might need in order for this to work maybe?

It depends if it's an official firmware version or not.

I'd say that if it's an unhacked v3.5+, you're covered.

On the XMB (the PSP menu), go to Settings > System Settings > System Information
