Help - Settlers on DS

Please help!!

I am stuck really really early on.

It's embarassing!

In the Roman campaign I get to the bit where the diary says to go to the north point.

I assume you just go up to the top of the screen, as far as you can, which I do, but nothing happens.

I don't get it!!
