Is the PSP Go! too expensive?

Discuss Sony's slick handheld here

Is the PSP Go! too expensive?

Postby Fraser » Wed Jun 03, 2009 11:00 am

Love the form factor, love the download approach, love the vastly improved release schedule, but...

TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY SMACKERS!

I know, I know, the UK price hasn't been confirmed yet, but even in Euros, that's a very hefty price tag. That's a Nintendo Wii in Germany, or nearly two Xbox 360s. I know it's not that much more than an iPod touch (219 euros), but the DSi is considerably cheaper at 150 euros.

Foolishly, it'll still be a day one purchase for me (LittleBigPlanet leaves me little choice), but it will be a grudging one.

it is to expensive a price point of around the same as the psp 3000 would be better since they are placing it as an alternative to the psp 3000

i'm still pondering if i want to give up physical media yet and go dlc only

The thing is, Sony is going to struggle to get the cash it needs at that price. I wonder what the manufacturing costs of the PSPgo are? The other thing is, despite the PSP Brite being set to sell alongside the PSPgo for some time to come, there's less chance of that piece of hardware getting a price cut now, as Sony will be wary of cannibalizing PSPgo sales. What a mess!

My theory: They're pricing people away from the PSP and saying - "For £50 more, you can get a PS3 instead!" :p

Yes, it's far too expensive. Then again, I wouldn't have got one in the initial rush anyway (3 PSP's is enough for now ;) ). I can only think that they're making up for retailers not stocking up on PSP games anymore. They need some sort of voucher system...

I agree with dude91, I think that the PSP Go's price will fall soon enough after it's launch, Sony has said that it's price is aimed at the early adopters.

Ordered mine at Tesco.com, £199.97 plus GT as a free download is what i think a good deal. If you take into account the cost of GT, then the unit itself is round about £175 - £180. Hopefully Tesco have started a price war and in so will force other retailers into lowering their prices. All sony have got to do now is offer downloadable games at a decent price and hopefully the PSP GO will fly off the shelfs.

that's partially right and wrong. The original iPhone wasn't subsidized with a plan
and actually was $599 & $499 for the 8 & 4 gb versions. I know because I bought
two of them at launch. Then, a few months after launch they slashed the price by $200 and the early adopters were up in arms. As damage control they gave early adopters a $100 apple gift card to make an amends. So, don't talk out of your ass without having your facts straight and talk down to people. Douche.

Jersey City is the second largest city in New cheap nhl jerseys, after Newark, and is home to around 250,000 people. Close to New York; the city is a haven for businesses that need to be close to the financial centre but who can't afford the sky high rents that come with having an office in such an wholesale nhl jerseys illustrious location.
